Andrew Johnson

My first project using the medium of documentary-style digital narration was surrounding the 17th President of the United States. The Civil War is one the most documented periods in American History, yet the story of Andrew Johnson and his historical impeachment is relatively undiscussed. This semester-long independent study, partnered with Professor Liz Regosin, allowed me to explore primary documents, historical books, audio production, and video editing.

Port Royal:

The Trials of Assistance

During the summer, I had the pleasure of working with Professor Liz Regosin to complete a History Research Fellowship. I received a grant last spring to research The Port Royal Experiment, The Freedmen's Bureau, and The Southern Claims Commission. I worked on this project for 8 weeks on campus, working full-time to complete a documentary (or digital narrative) on these topics. Telling the untold stories of African-Americans, Missionaries, and Aid Societies during and after the Civil War has been a very motivating task. Interpreting the genesis of the Post-Civil War era drives our understanding for America's problems today. I am grateful for these opportunities here at St. Lawrence University, and plan on continuing my research in the discipline of history.
